Woodway, Va. - "Dumpster Pups" Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2003: I received a phone call this evening about the above two pups (now three 2/24/03 because the person that was going to take the one on the left above backed out). A woman found them abandoned at a dumpster. She thinks they are 2/3 months old. The black ones are female, the tan one is male. She thinks that the black ones are mostly Lab, but no idea about the little tan boy with the sweet face. She said she could not leave them there (dog warden picks up pups/dogs routinely abandoned at dumpster sites). So, she took them home with her and has given them temporary shelter in her garage. The family has two adult Rottweilers and hubby says they cannot stay. She says they appear healthy and were very hungry and ate dry Purina food that she had for her dogs. She had hoped that I could take them immediately, but I cannot. I asked her if she would care for them a few days to give me time to find a foster/rescue for them and she says she will try to persuade her husband. She says the pups are flea-ridden, but I will try to help her take care of that problem and to give them their first puppy shots. They probably also need to be wormed asap. The dogs are about 12 miles from my home. I am posting about the pups tonight on the internet and giving this link so that people can see their pictures. Does anyone have room for these sweet pups that were discarded like garbage??? UPDATE: URGENT 2/24/03 THESE PUPS MUST BE MOVED TODAY OR TOMORROW. THEY HAVE ALREADY PHONED THE POUND. I phoned saying that I will somehow get them, even if I have to build a temporary outdoor pen. But I can't do this unless I know I have a rescue or transport for them by the weekend. A rescue in Alexandria, Va. will take the pups..but then I must know that I have a way to get them there. Bad news...the pups were picked up by rescue. But they are now sick w/ parvo. The vet said the little girl (center pic above) was beyond help and had to be put to sleep. Update: The other two pups were treated successfully and recouperating well. They have been named "Chance" (brown boy) and "Lucky" (black boy). UPDATE: These pups are SAFE. A rescuer drove all the way from near Pittsburgh to get them. They have since been adopted into their very own home. Thanks to all. |

At rescue - they just had a bath and are in crate while they dry.
