"Wally"

Adopted! - see update below.
Wally was posted as needing rescue on the internet the end of May 2001. He was in a North Carolina Humane Society Shelter and had been up for adoption. Sadly however, even most humane societies can only hold dogs for a period of time before having to put them down to make room for other dogs. Wally was actually turned in by his owner! The reason Wally's owner turned him in to the shelter is unknown. I understand that Wally was his name and he does answer to it. He was turned in clean and groomed and seemed that he had been well cared for. The shelter listed Wally as a neutered Maltese/Poodle mix, and 8 years old. Wally does have some allergies - he has days that he sneezes and his eyes need to be cleaned daily due to some matter in the corners of his eyes. (Geez - I have the same problem! Good thing I can't be turned into the pound for sneezing!) When Wally has a bad allergy day he gets a dose of Benadryl tucked into a snack of weiner or piece of ham, etc. He goes several days at times requiring NO Benadryl. Wally is housebroken, likes to sleep on the sofa if allowed. He also likes his small crate and sleeps in it at night. I have taken him "visiting" with me to friends' home where there was a large yard and other dogs. He was allowed off the leash (does well on a leash) to romp and run in the yard. He did not offer to take off and always came back when I thought he was going out of bounds. Wally gets along well with other dogs and cats. (He is the ONLY dog here that Pippie tolerates - see Wally and Pippie below.) He stands up and dances to beg and has a definite "ARF" bark - usually 4 times in succession.
I can only guess that his age and sneezes kept him from being adopted while in the shelter in North Carolina.

Wally weighs 12 pounds - his friend Pippie weighs 5 pounds.

Wally tested negative for Heartworm and is on Heartgard. He is up-to-date on all shots and given Frontline for flea and tick protection. Neutered.
Although Wally does not act his 8 years and is still playful, we feel that a home without small children would be best for him. He would probably prefer a low to medium activity level in the home - so as not to disturb his naps. <grin> His adopter should either be able and willing to bathe and groom him regularly or be able to afford having it done professionally. Wally behaves very well during his baths, so it seems he is very used to it. Wally is a happy little dog, so thankfully, being abandoned and in the shelter does not seem to have had a negative effect on him. He loves everyone and attention.
Adoption fee: $125.00
UPDATE: August 7,2001 Wally has been adopted! He will be going to his home as soon as transport can be arranged, probably this weekend. He is going to a loving family in Raleigh, North Carolina. He has a "sister" by the name of Sophie about the same age as Wally waiting to meet him. Below are some pictures of Sophie, Wally's new mom and some of the other family members - all of whom love Sophie and will love Wally, too!
