"Smoky"

Smoky, a male poodle mix, was picked up as a stray in a mobile home park.  He was reported wandering loose in the area and was obviously very neglected.  The animal control picked him up.  I was told that one of the people living in the mobile home park advised the persons who were believed to own Smoky that the "dog catcher" had picked him up.  The dog pound received no inquiry into Smoky's being there....and the 5 days for Smoky ran out on the morning of December 14, 2000.  Smoky was one of the seven dogs due to be "put down" that morning.

Smoky - just brought out from the cages at the pound.
(The local pound has only 6 cages which sometimes have 6 or more dogs in each one and I was told that on the average over 100 dogs are put to death monthly.)
