Sir's  Story

I gave him this name because he is such a gentleman.   His owner, an elderly lady who became ill and unable to take care of him, turned him into the pound.  I feel that the previous owner hoped that because he is such a fine animal that "surely" someone would adopt him.  This is the reasoning of many people who turn in their dogs.  Most never phone to find out the fate of the animal, but probably prefer not to know and try to tell themselves the dog probably was adopted.

Sir was pulled from the pound on January 5, 2001.  He climbed right into the back seat of my car and was very well behaved on the trip home, which made me think "Sir" has been used to riding in the past.  He gets along well with other dogs, small or large, and totally ignores my cats.

Update Jan. 26, 2001:   "Sir" has been neutered; tested Heartworm Neg and will start on Heartgard Feb.1st. (so it will be easy to remember that he needs it the first of each month); received one year Rabies vaccination; received DA2PLCPV/COR and is due to receive another in 3 weeks.  He weighs 54.8 pounds (probably needs to gain a bit - he came from the shelter on the thin side).   He was wormed the week of Jan.15 and began to eat better.   The vet estimated his age to be 4 or 5 years old and said "Sir" is in general good health.  "Sir" also received a much needed bath while at the vet's.

UPDATE Nov. 24, 2001 on the age: We actually were able to contact Sir's previous owner.  He was only about 2 when we got him from the shelter, so he is approximately 3 years old. (Even vet's are not accurate on ages it seems.)

The sunshine really shows off his beautiful color!

Sir - happy for a walk around the field.
A smiling "Sir" - much happier than when he first arrived.  Compare to the pictures at the top of the page.

Update:  Nov. 24, 2001  Sir is still in foster care.  His forever home has not been found.  He has gained some weight and probably even needs to lose a few pounds.  His coat is beautiful now!

Update:  Dec. 9, 2001  Sir's prospective new "mom" (Martha)drove to s.w. Virginia from the Asheville, N.C. to meet him.  It was love at first sight and Sir seemed to like her very much also. (See pics taken Dec. 9 below.)
