Shelter Notes: Sammy is here from a neglect case. he is only about 1 yr old and is in desperate need of medical attention. he has severe mange on her face/body. he is around 12 lbs. he just needs some love and medical treamtent, and would have so much love to give in return.

Sammy has sarcoptic mange, confirmed by a skin scrape test by the vet.  This is very treatable and he will get his hair back!  He is being wormed and receiving his vaccinations.  He tested negative for heartworms.  If you think you may want to adopt Sammy and give him the loving home he deserves, please check back often for updates and new pictures.  He will not be neutered until the mange is cleared up.

Sammy was seen by my vet today and she says that he is only about 6 or 7 months old, just a baby.  It is sad that life has been so rough for him thus far.   The shelter's estimate of 12 pounds was not correct - he weighs 9 pounds.

Update -  Dec. 12, 2004

Sammy has hair back around his eyes and most bare spots are disappearing.
He is solid black with exception of a touch of white on his chest. 

Note the blur of a tail - it is always wagging now.

Update Jan 7:  Sammy's mange is all gone and he is looking great.  I took some new pictures, but my camera does not do well indoors.  Plus, it is very hard to get good pictures of a solid black dog.  Check back.  I will take some when the sun shines.

Sammy is really growing.  He was just a baby in the pound in November.

Update:  Sammy went to his new home in Winston-Salem, N.C. on April 3.  He has a little boy and little girl to play with, two other doggie friends and a big fenced yard to explore.  See the pictures below:
