Bogey

Poor boy - spent 13 days in the pound and no one came looking for him.

Bogey is not yet available.  He just arrived April 7, 2005.  He was neutered and must recouperate from that.  He will be going to my vet for a Heartworm test so that he can get started on preventative.  I am hoping that my vet can give me her professional opinion on his approximate age.  His front teeth are clean, white, bright....but his back teeth have some tartar.  This does not always mean the dog is old.  The tartar can build up from always eating a soft diet and getting no crunchy treats to help clean his teeth, etc.  Bogey weighs 16 pounds.   He was either running as a stray for some time, or was just not groomed by his former owners because he is terribly matted.  I cannot bathe him for a few days because of the surgery.

Bogey has not been here for 24 hours yet, but he is so sweet.  He will make some family a wonderful pet.  Check back for updates.  (4/8/05)

Update: 4/17/05  Bogey is one of the most adorable dogs.  He is anxious to please, housetrained, gets along well with other dogs, is not cat aggressive.  I am not an expert on identifying breeds, but I think Bogie is a YorkiePoo - a  mix of Yorkie and Poodle.

Update:  5/1/05  Bogie is getting spoiled.  He has succeeded in making a couple of my dogs move over to make room for him on the foot of my bed at night.    :)

See the pictures taken today.  Yesterday an attempt was made to comb out or cut out the terrible mats so that he could have a bath.  There were just too many and it was being too painful for Bogey.  So, he was given a scissor cut and will have to let his coat grow back out, receiving regular grooming so that he will not get in this matted condition again.  Anyone adopting Bogey should be aware that he is a "high maintenance" dog and will require frequent grooming and occassional trips to a professional groomer.

He looks like a different dog, but I think he likes his new hairdo.  It will be more comfortable for the summer months.
